Parents: Watch the 2 videos below with your child(ren) and discuss what is happening.
Discussion ideas: (Some of these questions may be too hard for the younger children so you can discuss what you feel is appropriate for your child(ren).
1. Why did Jesus go to the desert? (To be alone to pray and be closer to God his father)
2. How long was Jesus in the desert? (Lent is also 40 days)
3. What else did Jesus do in the desert? (Fast) What does that mean, why would he do that? (again to be closer to God)
4. What happened to Jesus when he was very tired & hungry (tempted by the devil)
5. What did Satan tempt Jesus with? (food, money, power)

1.What did Jesus ask the 2 disciples to do? 2. Did they understand why Jesus asked this? 3. Would you do something for Jesus that you didn't understand? 4. How did the people treat Jesus? Why? 5. Did everyone believe Jesus was 'the rescuer" ? 6. How did Jesus feel about the people that didn't like him? 7. How do you feel about Jesus? Parents: Please watch this video with your child(ren) and discuss it with them...suggestions:
1. Is this a happy or sad story? why? 2. Why did God send his son Jesus to us? 3. What is the 'good news' for us because Jesus died for us? 4. Who betrayed Jesus? 5. Peter was angry and what did he do to the soldier? 6. What did Jesus do for the soldier? Do you think Jesus still loves the soldier? and Peter? (Forgiveness) 7. What happened after Jesus died? 8. How do you think other people knew that Jesus rose from the dead? 9. Is Jesus rising from the dead the end of the story? What is something else that will happen? Additional questions for the older children.... 10. How did Jesus' apostles/friends feel after he was taken away and crucified? (Talk about how Peter was afraid and denied Jesus...see the next video) 11. Would you deny that you believe in Jesus/God because you were afraid or embarrassed to talk about God (maybe even to your friends)? Parents: This video (left) is for the 5th grade students (or older).
It is an overview of Holy Week. A quick reminder of the events that happened. Just have a brief discussion to be sure your child understands what is happening...this may help them to understand the readings in church as well. |
